Elmo’s Diner – Carrboro
Elmo’s Diner in Carrboro quickly became an important part of the neighborhood after opening in historic Carr Mill Mall in July of 1991. Listed on the National Registry of Historic Places under its original name, The Alberta Complex, Carr Mill Mall had been a cotton mill, a hosiery mill and a munitions factory before being renovated and opening its doors as a shopping mall in 1977. The original hardwood floors, rustic exposed beams and huge windows make a warm and sunny atmosphere for this casual diner. The mall continues to thrive and offers many unique businesses for those in search of something a little different.
Carrboro Elmo’s is conveniently located near many Chapel Hill & Carrboro sites, including the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill campus, N.C. Memorial Hospital, the Dean Smith Center, The Arts Center of Carrboro, the beautiful North Carolina Botanical Gardens, Morehead Planetarium and Science Center, Ackland Art Museum and DSI Comedy Club (we share a loading dock). We hope you will enjoy some of our local attractions either before or after choosing Elmo’s Diner for your meal.

I love Elmo's because they can always be counted on for two things: quality food and quality service. One of the resons I applied to UNC-CH was so that I could stay close to Elmo's!"
The food is great! The waitresses and waiters are very friendly. I come here five days per week."
I've never eaten here
